Budgets that line up with your salary

A limit that resets on the 1st measures the wrong thing for someone paid on the 25th. In Navefi, when a payday is detected, the budget period starts on that day. And the amounts do not have to be invented: Navefi proposes them from what you already pay and what you already spend.

This month’s budget
Day 18 of 31
Groceries€274 / €320
Restaurants€92 / €150
Transport€335 / €320
Utilities€143 / €140
Leisure€203 / €200
  • The month starts on your payday

If you are paid on the 25th, the budget period resets on the 25th. With no payday detected, the 1st applies. Each member has their own, so the check runs daily and only acts on whoever turned over that day.

  • A warning at 90% of the limit

A daily check at eight in the morning compares spending against the effective limit — the limit plus anything carried over — and warns whoever reached 90%. The warning goes out once per period, not every morning, and appears in the app notification centre. It ships on and can be switched off.

  • An amount proposed from the median, not the average

Navefi looks at the last six complete months, takes the median of what you spent in that category, adds 10% headroom and rounds up. It uses the median because one strange month ruins an average. It only proposes categories with spending in at least two of those months.

  • The essentials come from contracts, not a guess

Rent is €650 because there is a bill saying €650. For essential categories Navefi adds up the bills and subscriptions — a yearly one divided by twelve, a quarterly one by three — and adds headroom for whatever the contracts do not explain. A variable bill, like electricity, uses actual spending instead. And a limit you set by hand is never overwritten.

  • Carry-over, if you ask for it

Each budget can carry what was left of the previous period into the next one, where it adds to the limit. It ships off.

  • Shared or yours alone

A budget can be visible to the whole household or stay private. Two people in the same workspace can each keep their own restaurants budget for the same month.

In Portugal salaries almost always land between the 21st and the end of the month, and a limit that resets on the 1st cuts a week of spending in half. That is why the budget period follows the day you are paid, not the calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Are budgets monthly, weekly or yearly?

Monthly. One period per month and per category. There are no weekly or yearly budgets, and no budgets per account or per tag.

What happens to what is left from last month?

If you switched carry-over on for that budget, the leftover enters the next period and adds to the limit. By default the limit resets clean.

Does the warning arrive by email or on my phone?

It appears in the notification centre inside the app. There is no email delivery.

Does the budget count what I spent or what I got back?

It counts the net cost. Refunds deducted, transfers between your own accounts left out, spending on projects or trips marked as separate left out, and everything converted to the workspace currency.
